Chicago Firefighter and Paramedic Christopher D. Wheatley, 31, died in the line of duty, fighting a restaurant fire in the early morning of August 9, 2010. Chris inspired all those around him by living a life devoted to service, family and friendship. Chris was extremely dedicated to the CFD and to serving his beloved city, Chicago.

Not only did Chris serve as a CFD FF/PM, but in his spare time he worked with STARTGroup, teaching proper emergency response techniques to municipal/plant employees, was an instructor at University of Illinois at Chicago to medical students, teaching proper emergency techniques, and also volunteered his time to a variety of organizations.

While a student at Lemont High School, Chris was also one of the founding members of Athletes for Excellence, which promoted the benefits of education and drug/alcohol-free living for high school students.

Our mission is to continually support and provide opportunities for individuals who demonstrate honorable service to others as a reflection of Chris's life.

Chris has been honored and remembered in many beautiful ways since his passing, however, it is through the smiles of our scholarship recipients that we see him shining through.
